Originally from Dallas, Texas, I moved to Columbus, Ohio to pursue my bachelor’s degree in International Business. Post graduation, I moved to Tokyo, Japan for 3 years, traveled all over the world, then settled back down in DFW for a career in aerospace. In 2012, I met my wife, Sarah, a fellow Texan, and in 2014 we moved to Seattle for work. We eventually bought a house in the south Seattle neighborhood of Georgetown in 2016. For almost 10 years, we are happy to call Georgetown our home, along with our rescue dogs, Fajita & Peppa. I am still in aerospace sales, and co-own a canned wine company called Sound Goods. I am an avid fan of the USNMT & USWNT teams, with 100+ games attended (I even have my ticket stub from the first Dos-a-Cero USA v Mexico WCQ in 2001).
Sarah and I grew up in the Texas competitive soccer youth system and we both played 4 years at our respective colleges (her at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, me at Ohio Dominican University). Our mutual love for the beautiful game brought us together, and inspired our international travels: 2014 World Cup in Brazil, 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, 2018 World Cup in Russia, 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the 2023 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.
Prior to us attending the 2022 World Cup, I wanted to know where visitors could legally drink in Qatar. However, I found this to be a challenge, as there was no definitive lists. I started asking fellow travelers, searching on-line, calling restaurants & hotels… all while tracking my findings in spreadsheets and in my Google Map. After spending almost 100+ hours building a definitive “Qatar Alcohol Map”, I shared it with other fans, who then shared it with their connections and so on. Before long, I was being interviewed by Yahoo Sports, Sports Illustrated, New York Times, and numerous others. My alcohol map amassed almost 3.5 million views!
I wanted to work on a similar project for the 2026 World Cup, but there isn’t a need for a booze map(s) when it’s readily available all over Canada, Mexico and USA. With Seattle being one of the 16 host cities, I turned my attention to the Georgetown (south Seattle) neighborhood that I love and what it has to offer. In the spring of 2025, I began brainstorming and eventually came up with the GWAP plan.
